Researcher, writer, consultant

Thomas Prosser is Professor of European political economy at Cardiff University. He has almost twenty years of research experience, publishing two books and multiple journal articles. He is a political economist, researching subjects such as European social democracy, party and trade union support bases and European social dialogue with qualitative and quantitative methods. Underpinning these concerns, Thomas has a longstanding interest in the European Union (EU) and has written extensively about Brexit.

Currently, Thomas is conducting survey experiments which investigate the class and ideological foundations of social policy preferences and recently fielded a survey of British voters with YouGov. He is completing a book on changing political values in sociocultural sectors which uses data from panel studies such as the British Election Study (BES) and American National Election Study (ANES).

Using such datasets and/or qualitative methods such as semi-structured interviews, Thomas is adept at writing reports and has undertaken consultancy for the European Commission, International Labour Organization and European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions. In coming years, he is keen to work with new clients.

Thomas has conducted research in multiple European countries and is particularly familiar with Poland and Spain, undertaking extensive fieldwork and speaking engagements in these countries. He speaks Polish, Spanish, French and Welsh.
